Expresso Morning Show Presenters get a little Tongue Thai’d

This week on SABC3’s Expresso Morning Show, we put the super competitive presenters Ewan Strydom and Katlego Maboe up against each other in the ultimate Simply Asia Tongue Thaid quiz. Tongue twisters, tasting games and figuring out which Thai name belongs to which dish are what we challenged the presenters to. Have a look at the clip to see who was the Ultimate Tongue Thai’d champion.

Once the winner was announced, we got down to the tasty part of the show, where we cooked a delicious Phad Cha. Here’s the recipe (serves 4):

Ingredients:

  • 40ml oil
  • 10g crushed garlic
  • 10g crushed chilli
  • 10g crushed and finely chopped lemongrass
  • 10g galangal
  • 10g lesser ginger
  • 300g beef strips
  • 10g finely chopped onion
  • 80g chopped peppers
  • 80g green beans
  • 10g fish sauce
  • 50g stir fry sauce
  • 10g sugar
  • 2 lime leaves
  • 10g basil leaves
  • 10g fresh coriander

Preparation:

Heat the oil in a wok. Add the garlic, chilli and lemongrass. Next add the galangal and ginger.

Mix together until the flavours are released from the ingredients. Now add the beef. Wok until the beef browns. Add the onion, green beans and peppers.

Next add the fish sauce, stir fry sauce and sugar. Wok for 1 minute.

Lastly add the lime leaves and basil. Sprinkle with fresh coriander and serve with Jasmine rice.
