We have always believed in the tradition of Songkran, so in 2013 we decided to celebrated Songkran in true Simply Asia style by launching a campaign (pictured right) and partnering with FeedSA as our soul beneficiary. FeedSA is a non-profit organisation whose main aim is to establish feeding programmes and education within the townships for all those who receive no other forms of funding whatsoever, and for children who go to school with an empty stomach. They also implement the building and setting up of crèches, from the infrastructure to the operations and curriculum. FeedSA focuses on the JHB area (from Alexandra Township, Soweto, Orlando West, Orange Farm and the West Rand), but also have several benefactors in the KwaZulu-Natal and Western Cape regions.
One benefactor of FeedSA Foundation in the Western Cape is Fano Ngcobo who organises various Soup Kitchens in and around the Zola Township in Somerset West. On Monday, 22 April 2013 we filled our delivery trucks with freshly cooked foods took along a couple of our Thai chefs and made our way to visit the community of Mbhele Street in the Zola Township. There we were welcomed by and fed over 100 very excited little children.
We selected 4 of our most popular dishes for the 2013 Songkran Special, paired them with a Lipton Ice Tea to sweeten the deal and encourage our loyal customers to “help us help FeedSA, and for every Songkran Special sold, R5 from every Songkran Special sold was then donated to FeedSA. In addition to this, Simply Asia Durbanville and Simply Asia Krugersdorp hosted a special event on Tuesday, 30th of April 2013 and agrred to donate the entire day’s turnover to FeedSA. In total we were able to raise over R100 000.00 for FeedSA.
This year we are doing our very best to try reach even more children and have selected The Lunchbox Fund as our beneficiary for Songkran 2015. Through this campaign we aim to help feed hungry children across the country by donating R2.50 to The Lunchbox Fund (which is all it costs to feed a hungry child a hot meal at school) for every Songkran Special sold.
From 13 April until 13 May 2015 (Mondays to Wednesdays only) we are running a Songkran Special. Visit your nearest Simply Asia store, sit-down and order a noodle dish (dishes ranging from 504 to 536 -chicken only, and dish 403) and get a second noodle dish absolutely free*. If you’re in a hurry, don’t worry, because take-away customers also benefit with our Songkran Special….just not as much as our sit-down customers do.
