With all the fires raging around the Western Cape, we couldn’t help but think of the hundreds of dedicated fire fighters who’ve been working endlessly attending to the fires, especially those at the Wemmershoek fire in the Franschoek, Paarl and Stellenbosch area, which has been out of control for several days now.
So, we gathered a few of our Thai chefs at our Central Kitchen in Observatory (Western Cape), and put them to work on their own fires… and woks…to cook up some tasty Thai food for the fire fighters. Once the food was all ready, it was time for the Marketing Department to step up! We called our friends at BOS who donated over 6 cases of BOS Iced Tea, packed the car with Thai food and noodle boxes, and off we went to Incident Command (IC) Centre at the Victor Verster Prison (Drakenstein Correction Centre).
The extent of the fire damage is massive, with over 32,000 hectares of vegetation alread destroyed! Driving along Wemmershoek Road you see nothing but smouldering earth, and we couldn’t begin to comprehend what the community went through on the preceding evenings when the fire was threatening their homes and land.
We’d like to thank all the fire fighters, the WoF (Working on Fire), the Western Cape Provincial Disaster Management Centre, Cape Nature and all the various fire protection associations and services for their tireless efforts while battling the blazes!
We’re keeping our ears to the ground on the progress of the fires to see if there’s anything else we can help with. If you’d like to show your support for the fire fighters, donations can be delivered to the IC Centre at Victor Verster Prison on Wemmershoek Road.
